Frequently Asked Questions

Eyebrow Service FAQs

What is threading?

Threading uses knotted thread to swiftly grab and pull hair by the root from the eyebrows, upper lip, chin and sideburns. Unlike waxing, threading can isolate and extract individual hairs.

What are the benefits of threading vs. waxing?

Threading is more precise because individual hairs, even fine hair, can be targeted and removed. Threading can be done as soon as hair grows just above the skin, whereas waxing requires the hair to be at least 1/4” long. Unlike waxing, threading doesn’t pull at the skin during the hair removal process which can cause irritation.

What does threading feel like?

You may feel a pinching or light scraping sensation. Most customers agree that it’s no more uncomfortable than tweezing or waxing.

Is it okay to get threaded if you have sensitive skin?

Yes. Depending on your sensitivity level, you may experience redness or minor bumps at the site that should subside in 10-15 minutes. In rare cases, the area may remain red for an hour or two. We recommend declining the lotion or aloe gel aestheticians usually apply after a session and refrain from using other facial products until the area feels less sensitive.

How long does threading take?

The upper lip takes just a few minutes, and a simple eyebrow threading takes 5-10 minutes. A full-face threading session lasts for 20-30 minutes.

What areas of the body can be threaded?

All areas of the face (eyebrows, lip, chin, sideburns) can be threaded. In addition threading can be used to remove hair from the back of the hands, fingers, top of the feet and toes.

How long does threading last?

Depending on your hair type and area of the face that was threaded, full regrowth can be anywhere from two to eight weeks.

If I get my full face threaded, will the hair grow back thicker?

No. After repeated threading, the hair actually tends to weaken and grow back finer.

Is it safe to get threaded after cosmetic surgery?

Check with your doctor to inquire how long you should wait to resume threading.

What does threading feel like?

You may feel a pinching or light scraping sensation. Most customers agree that it’s no more uncomfortable than tweezing or waxing.

I over tweezed. How long should I wait before my next threading appointment?

Although hair can be threaded as soon as it grows just above the surface of the skin, we recommend waiting for about two weeks if you want a new or different shape to your brows. In the meantime, don’t tweeze your brows, even for a touch up.

Can I specify how I want my brows to look?

Yes! Before you begin, let your aesthetician know how you want your brows shaped and how thick or thin you’d like them. Your aesthetician always creates an outline to ensure maximum symmetry and a shape based on your preferences. Before leaving the chair, check your brows to be sure you’re happy with the results. Your aesthetician will be happy to make any adjustments you’d like.

My brows don’t have a natural arch, is it possible to get them shaped that way?

Absolutely, but we’ll need to create a thinner brow to achieve the arch. If you want thicker eyebrows shaped to your natural contours, we don’t recommend the arched look.

How long does the tint/henna last?

The color can last up to 1 week on the skin and up to 6 weeks on the hair.

For longer lasting results, avoid moisture and heat on the brows.

Which is better? Threading or waxing?

At Lyla Brows & Beauty we only use high quality, safe products. Our thread and wax are gentle and organic. We prefer threading for the face as it can be more gentle and waxing for the body for quicker removal of hair on larger surface areas. If you are on retinol, have sensitive skin, sagging skin, or have allergies to wax, we recommend threading as an alternative. Waxing can be a great option for men and people with thicker hair or a large amount of hair.

How often should I Shape and Tint my brows?

Lyla recommends maintaining your brows every 2 weeks to keep the shape fresh and always have your brows looking flawless.

What are Permanent Brows?

Permanent Brows is a gentle tattoo procedure performed on your brows after creating a custom shape and outline. A numbing agent is used throughout the procedure for maximum comfort. Your permanent brows can last years! A yearly touch-up is recommended to ensure the color always looks fresh. Lifestyle and after-care play a big-role on results and longevity. In just 3-4 hours, you can have the brows you always dreamed of!

What is a Brow Lift?

A Brow Lift is a procedure where a gentle perming lotion is applied to the brows, reshaping each individual hair and placing them in such a way that it gives the appearance of a fuller brow. It is pretty much a long-lasting brow gel. It holds the hairs in the perfect place to camouflage any gaps and keep the hairs from moving. It is highly recommended to individuals with thick hair, curly hair, wiry, unruly hair. It lasts 6-8 weeks. No wetting or exposing to heat for 24 hours post procedure.

Will the tint/henna be too dark?

At Lyla Brows & Beauty we always ensure you leave happy and satisfied as well as, comfortable and confident with your brows. We go over the different color options and create a custom shape and color just for you! If it is ever too dark, please let us know at the time of service. The color can always be adjusted and made lighter or darker.

Lash Service FAQs

How long does lash extensions take?

Lash Extensions take approximately 1.5-2.5 hours. Each strong, natural lash is bonded with a lash extension. A lash lift can take up to 45 minutes. A lash tint will take 15 minutes.

Do lash extensions make my natural lashes fall off?

Absolutely not. When applied correctly and after-care is followed, lash extensions are completely safe. It is completely normal to shed approximately 5 natural lashes (and extensions) from each eye every day. Don’t be worried, natural lashes only shed when there is a new lash in the same follicle pushing it out.

Are my lash extensions going to look unnatural?

A consultation is always done before getting started with the service. We create a custom lash look that fits your preferences, lifestyle and keeps your natural lashes healthy.

Do lash extensions hurt, feel heavy or uncomfortable?

Lash extensions are applied 2mm away from the base of the natural lash therefore, you won’t even feel them!

Can lash extensions get wet?

Lash extensions are water-proof! It is important you wash and brush your lashes daily. Just make sure to stay away from mascara, oily products and if you sweat or go to the beach, be sure to wash your lashes right after.

How do I care for my lash extensions?

-No mascara.

-Only use oil-free products on and around the eyes and lashes.

Is a Lash Lift safe?

Lash lifts are completely safe and will not ruin your natural lashes as long as it is performed properly and you follow the after-care instructions.

When should I come in for a refill?

Refills are recommended every 2 weeks to keep your lashes healthy and looking full at all times.

Are lash extensions safe for contact-lense wearers?

Lash extensions can be worn by contact-lense users. We just advise you to keep your lashes as dry as possible.

What is the difference between Classic, Hybrid and Volume?

The difference is the fullness. Volume is the fullest since we apply 3 extensions per strong, natural lash instead of 1 extension like in Classic. Although Volume lashes are fuller, they can still look very natural and are very light-weight. (Our secret favorite is Volume)

What lash style suits me best?

A consultation is always done. Together, we will choose a custom look based on your eye and face shape as well as preferences.

How to remove lash extensions?

Please visit Lyla Brows & Beauty to safely remove your lash extensions.

What is a Lash Lift?

A lash lift is a lash curling procedure done with a gentle perming lotion. A lash lift creates curlier natural lashes for 6-8 weeks without having to use a lash curler, mascara, or false lashes. Add a lash lift for darker, more defined lashes.

What is a Lash Tint?

A Lash Tint is a procedure where a gentle lash dye is applied to the natural lashes to make them darker.

How to care for my lashes after a Lash Lift and/or Tint?

For the first 24 hours, avoid getting lashes wet or exposing them to heat or steam. You also want to make sure you don’t sleep face down or on your sides as this can mis-shape the lashes. After the 24 hours, you can apply your lash serum, mascaras etc. However, the more gentle you are with them and the less you wet them and apply products, the longer the lash lift/tint will last.

How often should I do a lash lift/tint?

You can get the lash lift/tint done every 6-8 weeks.
